4-19-09 - Finally! Last fall, I wrote an article for Inspirations Magazine (published in Australia) on the history of temari and also provided a pattern for a pocket project "Oliver Twist."  The issue will be out any day down under and will reach the US in a few weeks. Here's a preview.

1-6-09 - Our kimekomi book is taking off in sales thanks to the hard work of Anne Knudsen, our publisher at Breckling Press. If you are looking for the supplies to make kimekomi, check out these websites:

Dylite Smoothfoam Balls

Dremel VersaTip Hot Knife

Walnut Hollow makes several versions of their hot knife. It is carried at most major craft stores.

Satin Cord for trim - we like the #1 lightweight size. The #2 size is also good. It is always best to make the ball first but tucking in all of your fabric, and then audition different trims to see what works best.

11-27-08 - Do you collect temari books from Japan? Here are some labels to help you quickly identify your books when they are on the book shelf.

11-21-08 - It always amazes me how many people I meet have never seen or heard of the craft of Japanese temari. Will you help me spread the word? Temari and kimekomi handballs make very special gifts that are inexpensive to make. Yes, they take time and thought and talent, but everyone appreciates those things in a gift more than the price tag. Give a gift lovingly made by hand or give a copy of a beautiful book about the craft this year.

Please share the link to Japanesetemari.com on Digg, Del.icio.us, MySpace, Facebook, Reddit, Stumbleupon or whatever sharing space you use on the web. Look for the link on Japanesetemari.com home page that says "share."

Help spread the fun!
Thanks!

11-3-08 - Japanese Temari, A Colorful Spin on an Ancient Craft has gone for a second printing and my publisher reports that sales are still steady. Good news for temari! Please keep spreading the word about these embroidered handballs, especially around the holidays. Give temari as gifts or give the book.

11-2-08 - I was thrilled to receive a letter from Hoffman fabrics saying that a kimekomi ball I made has juried into their trunk show to travel the US. Thanks, Hoffman! Photos are posted on my website. You can find the list of cities and dates on the Hoffman website.

11-1-08 -  rss feed  Add this feed to your reader to get notified of new patterns, books, magazine articles and other goodies from Japanese Temari.

Using rss feeds is something new for me. Here's how I did it: there are several websites that I visit on a regular basis to see what's new. I set Yahoo as my home page so everytime I connect to the internet the Yahoo page opens first. Then I visited my favorite websites and clicked on their rss boxes. Like magic, I was taken to Yahoo and offered to add the feed. Of course, I said yes.

Now, every time I connect to the internet, there is a list of anything new from my favorite websites. No need to go surfing around unless the feed tells you there is something new to see. Works great for me and I hope you will use rss feeds, too. Add the one from my site by clicking on the orange rss box.

4-4-08 - View from my room. Ah, glorious dogwood!

2-6- 08 - In Japan, Friday, February 8, is the date of a traditional ceremony important to all those who stitch. It's Harikuko, literally "needle memorial."

11-1-07 - Many more photos are in the Temari Challenge Gallery on all levels.   Please send me pictures of your temari so I can add them to the ever growing gallery ( barb@japanesetemari.com).  If you have any question on how to make the temari displayed there, join the group and ask!
