January - Flea Market Finds

I am a bit late sharing my first effort at adding more embroidery to my temari. My camera was stolen and I'm still getting used to the new one. My inspiration for this one was a trip to the flea market with my daughter. We found a vendor with amazing little doo-dahs, little pieces of metal and crystal piled up in old wooden drawers. She took apart anything antique that would have gone to the dump. The stand for this temari is part of an old chandelier. I'm not sure what's the origin of the metal pieces that I attached to the poles. This one was also an experiment in threads for me. I've been stuck in a rut using pearl cotton. Don't get me wrong, pearl is still my favorite. But it's fun to be adventurous and that's my goal!

The details:

33 cm circumference ball wrapped in black thread. Simple 12 division marked with YLI Candlelight Metallic yarn (black). Diagonal marking lines placed through 6 intersections at the equator using Fyre Works (F9) copper metallic by Rainbow Gallery. Kiku on each pole stitched to surround the metal piece. Anchor Marlitt light green and dark green and Treasure Braid Petite (copper color). Medallions worked around the equator using DMC #8 pearl cotton #437 - beige). Medallions are made with lazy daisy, straight stitches and French knots. Dark green Frosty Rays (Y086) is stitched in merry-go-round fashion around the equator and surrounding the pearl medallions. Other embellishments were stitched with Marlitt. Lastly, the metal pieces were attached to each pole by stitching a bead onto the ball through the hold in the metal piece. Half of the spokes were tacked with Goldrush 18 by Rainbow Gallery.
