JTA Shihan (Master/Teacher) Temari
These are the eight original temari designs that I submitted for Level 3, Shihan (Master/Teacher) certification with the Japan Temari Association in Tokyo.
During four months of concentrated work, I tried to create eight temari that would show the JTA examiners a variety of designs and techniques. This level, Shihan, certifies me to teach with the blessing of JTA so it was important to provide examples of different divisions, threads, stitches, techniques, and design choices like use of color and theme. I sent all eight patterns and three of the actual temari to Japan for the judging. Click on each of the photos below to learn a bit about the temari.
The judging was held at the JTA annual meeting in 2009. Shortly afterwards, I learned that all in my study group passed! Congratulations to Kathy Hewitt and Debi Abolt for their accomplishments and many thanks for their generosity in critiquing my entries. And thanks to our JTA sponsor who answered numerous questions from us and translated all our patterns.
