FingerGuard Tutorial

A guy who catches over a hundred fish on a fly rod in a day needs finger protection on his right hand! He says the FingerGuard has been holding up well, with just a little fraying at the cut ends. Our home-made FingerGuard compares to the neoprene Strippee from Walmart.

Here is an easy pattern made with a single knit fabric from Joann's.

For a large size, follow the directions below..

For an extra large size, cut fabric 3 1/2" by 5 3/4" and follow the same directions.

Cut a piece of very heavy single knit fabric 3" by 5 3/4". The fabric should stretch in the 3" direction.

Draw a line across the middle with a chalk marker.
Draw a line from left edge, 3/8" up from the corner to the middle line, 1/8" up from the edge.

Draw a line from right edge, 3/8" up from the corner to the middle line, 1/8" up from the edge.

All marking complete:

Fold in half lengthwise and pin.

Stitch on the line with a 1.5 stitch length. Set presser foot pressure to very low (15 on my Bernina) to accomodate the thick fabric. Reinforce both ends and across the middle.

Cut along middle line from folded edge to the stitching line.

Trim threads and excess fabric in seam allowance so the FingerGuard is comfortable to wear. Turn.

Ready for fishing!
