Coming this summer! Japanese Kimekomi.

Japanese Temari, A Colorful Spin on an Ancient Craft

Put together a beautiful color palette with DMC threads

Each temari that I make is a little experiment in color. The embroidered thread balls work up so quickly that it’s easy to try out new combinations of colors. Have you discovered the online color tool called Kuler (http://kuler.adobe.com/#)? That’s where I begin when selecting DMC pearl cotton colors for my temari.

I found a fabulous photo of a beach scene and uploaded it to Kuler. The program extracted the basic colors from the photo. I made a few adjustments using their selection tool, then downloaded those choices to my computer. After printing the photo and the blocks of color, I headed off to my local needlework shop and had no trouble finding DMC thread to match the gorgeous photograph.

Want to see my choices for a seashore palette? It's here....

So, start with a photo or piece of artwork that you find really striking, visit Kuler, then your local needlework shop and enjoy stitching!

Check out DMC's website for lots of stitching ideas and thread information.
