Intermediate Temari Class
EGA National Seminar, Louisville, KY
September 1 and 2, 2008
Imagine floating on a boat at night under a clear, moonless sky. Maritime Stars, with its black-as-night background, swirling blue water, and glowing stars is a combination 8-division Japanese temari ball inspired by the sea at night. Stitch a bouquet of six different chrysanthemums bordered by trefoil-stitched leaves on Kiku Sampler. This temari is a study of variations of the unique kiku herringbone stitch. In the class you will learn a combination of 8-division, swirl stitch, kiku herringbone, trefoil stitch and many tips and techniques for making the perfect Japanese temari ball. You'll have a choice of the 2 colorways shown.
Prerequisites for this class: you must be able to wrap a ball and divide it into a simple 8-division on your own . From that point, I'll teach you how to add guidelines for the combination 8-division. We'll begin with Maritime Stars and then stitch the Kiku Sampler. To get the best experience in this class, try out the kiku herringbone stitch and be familiar with it. You will learn lots of variations!
The classroom will be a showcase of antique and modern temari in many different designs. Also, you will have the opportunity to study over 25 temari books from Japan. Bring your cameras!
